Monkey orphan…

An unusual guest appeared in our Center. A very young male of marmoset is now our guest. It is a species of small new world monkeys inhabiting South America. Its adventure is rather common. The growth of affluence of Polish society, freedom of goods transfer in the EU – these are the reasons for the increase of exotic animals appearance in Poland. Monkeys, snakes, iguanas are only some of many popular exotic animals in our country. It is often the thing that new caretakers are not able to ensure the appropriate care and time. Beautiful, often incredible in their relationships with humans, have sometimes their disadvantages. Bitten wires, destroyed furniture, spiteful bites, marking everything with urine…these are only some of the drawbacks connected with having a marmoset. In general, marmosets are great in keeping at home. The reason for an untypical spitefulness of Frank – because this is what we called him - lies probably in his experience from the past. His journey from hands to hands, lack of a concrete caretaker, insufficient amount of time and warmth which they need so much made Frank very mistrustful. It slowly gets adjusted to us and the environment. The monkey will be here for good. We care about Frank, we want Frank to settle here and not to worry about his place anymore. Frank will be taken care of very well here.

Fox trauma...

Two Young, two-month foxes were brought to our Center. Unfortunately, their story does not belong to the happiest one can think of. The young animals were the victims of human ignorance. One of the foxes was noticed in the forest by a family who was on a holiday. The family, not aware of the fact that its mother left it just for a moment to look for food, took care of the fox. Ignorant people acting ‘in good faith’ took the little fox home against its instinct and nature. After a few days, the fox not only made a mess, but it also bit their caretakers. Taking into consideration the common risk of being infected with rabies, the animal had to be put into observation. This is when it was brought here. The story of the second one is also very sad. It was also taken from nature. In this case, the fox for a few days was a toy of children unaware of the danger. This story took place in a village outside Rzeszów. The fun was noticed by one of the parents who reacted immediately. The animal was brought here. Its condition was a bit worse. After an initial examination we diagnosed an infectious eyes disease. Unfortunately, we were unable to save the eyes. The fox will be always blind. Similar situations occur in Poland all the time. Almost every day we have calls concerning animals left alone for a while by their mothers. Fuksik and Krecik - these are the names of our new patients. They will stay with us. The blind Krecik unfortunately forever, while Fuksik will go through a long procedure where he will be adjusted to live in the wild again in its natural environment. Let us just hope that this time it will be successful.

Roe Deer fights with the element...

As it was last seen, the swollen river threatened not only to men. High water levels are also dangerous to wild animals. A few days ago the San River near Przemysl rapidity swept forest deer. The Roe deer drifted through the center of Przemysl. Vulnerable and helpless animal unsuccessfully tried to save itself, trying to get back to shore. To no avail. Element appeared to be stronger. Seconds divided her from drowning. Desperate struggle for life threw in the eyes of passers-by. Without hesitation, they took care of a needy animal. They notified the Patrol of the Municipal Police, who with the help of passers-by managed to draw the Roe deer to the shore. She was so weak that she did not even have the strength to instinctive defense and escape. Transport was arranged immediately and the deer was taken to our Centre. To our surprise, it turned out that the Roe deer is in advanced stages of pregnancy. In order to save the baby ruminant an immediate caesarean surgery which lasted an hour and a half was necessary. Although the chances of survival were slim we did our best to save the adult deer to the end. Unfortunately, because of extreme exhaustion of increased stress of this whole situation and injuries the mother could not be saved. The young survived. They are safe and sound. Two young came into the world; male and female. Fawns clinging to drink milk from a bottle, treating us like their own mother. Our priority is now feeding and adapting them for independent living in the wild. We will inform you about their further fate.

Noisy migration...

Next representative of the lesser spotted eagle is leaving our Centre. It was another victim of poison. The eagle was found near Przemysl. According to research conducted by our friend Przemyslaw Kunysza, the ornithologist, Przemysl stands in the way of migration of these beautiful birds, and many related species, which fly directly over our city. Every spring, they travel the European continent from the area around Turkey to Scandinavia. This is confirmed by the GPS monitoring system. An extensive network of monitoring is to keep the track of the location of single individuals and progress in their annual journey (walking tour you can see: Here). Chosen representatives have special transmitters attached to their position locator. Our beautiful bird, unfortunately will reach his destination with a small delay. This is not the first and not the last injured bird affected of various pesticides. Toxins hit directly the muscles of the wings and legs. Also the struck esophagus completely prevented him from eating food. Only the quick intervention saved the lesser spotted eagle from death in terrible agony. It has been noticed by the casual passers who have not remained indifferent to seeing his fight for life. Lesser went directly to us. Fast, professional help makes the predator fully recover within two weeks. He regained his freedom on extensive fields. He gained independence on extensive fields. We specially chose an area on the north of Przemysl so that he could continue his planned travel not having again to fly above the city. He spread his wings and then quickly and firmly rose up instinctively being pointed in the direction of Roztoczanski National Park.

Stork's nests...

Spring has already welcomed us fully. White storks spending the winter at us also greeted the spring . One of stork's pairs which were formed at us at the Centre amongst our 30 charges got down to working. As everybody knows, it is necessary to have the place to live. After a few warm days it was possible to notice the project outline of the future homestead in the form of the arranged range from small sticks. The nest day by day is expanding by building the more dense structure. Birds intensively are working dividing all duties. When one Stork is resting, second is dealing with carrying building materials. Urgently they are guarding their humble abode frightening everyone who is approaching from a distance with the beak smaller than at least 5 meters. A fact that is worth noticing is that these birds found their way to us with dead serious injuries. According to the consultation carried out with partners from the United States and the knowledge contained in the specialist literature was only reasonable for them euthanasia. This is proof that even if it was like a small probability of survival and access to health, however, it is always there. Other storks also do not want to feel worse. Within a radius of 20 meters from the said outlet, the other bird has already put two more architects. Sunny, warm weather favors cloud-cap voyages. Over our Centre you can already see the first in this year circulating, dominant Storks,
