From a historical point of view…
How did it begin?
Everything began about 19 years ago, when the veterinary surgeon Andrew Fedaczyński involved 'ADA' a private clinic for animals that is from the moment, when a possible uprising of the private veterinary practice happened. After 4 years of functioning the first wild bird is finding its way to the clinic – Common Buzzard (Buteo buteo).Since Dr. Andrew Fedaczyński was fascinated with wild animals could from his youngest years, he could not refuse to help injured animal. At his own expense he treated and cared for the bird adapting him for the return to wild. Over time, the clinic has been given another injured birds. Message that a veterinary clinic in Przemysl accepts and treats injured wild animals quickly spread to nearby communes and cities. Every year the number of injured representatives of wild fauna, finding its way to our clinic considerably grows bigger. After several years our activity is being noticed by the Team of Landscape Parks in Przemyśl. We receive invaluable merit assistance and the possibility of partial funding of our activity. The first aviaries and cages for birds of prey and owls are being made. On the turn of last 8 years, the number of birds finding their way to our clinic started growing dramatically. Currently we annually take in around 400 injured individuals to our Centre. Treatment, convalescence and food for all the animals entail enormous costs, and we are achieving a financial barrier, which we cannot jump on our own.
In order to further enhance of the Center and to meet the emerging financial obstacles at the end of 2008 Dr. Andrew Fedaczyński with the help of his son Dr. Radoslaw and Jacob Kotowicz the volunteer associated with our clinic for many years started a Foundation. Its purpose is to collect funds for Center activity. In the year 2009 the Foundation had already achieved the first successes. We establish contact with the University of Salford, Great Britain, in the production of prostheses for the wild animals that have lost limbs.
At the beginning of 2009 our efforts were recognized by the Regional Management of Environment in Rzeszow, which decided to partially support our Foundation. It is true that funding from state institutions suffices us barely for 4 months of activity, however it is a great help for us. We try to cover the rest of needed financial resources by our own contribution to the clinic and by funds acquired through Foundation.
In the middle of 2009 we started to land use, thanks to which our potential of bringing help to the wild fauna would increase and we could meet future challenges such as ever growing number of affected individuals coming to us.
At the end of 2009 our Foundation achieved the status of Public Benefit Organizations, thanks to which it is possible to count on our Centre 1% of the income tax return.
If only we will manage to raise competent funds in 2010 we are planning powering the Centre in the appropriate volume of cages and the aviary for big birds of prey. We are also planning to create an appropriately large and secure aquatic environment for limicolous – articular animals and to construct adequate enclosures and special runs for typical forest wildlife.
This enables us to create a genuine asylum and conditions thanks to which every wounded, wild animal will be able to return to full health in an environment imitating the one in which the animal usually lives.
