Would you like to be a volunteer?

Our center has always been open to young volunteers. For many years, a lot of great young people have helped us; large majority of them tied their further life with the study of related fields such as biology, zootechnics, and veterinary medicine. Here students of above directions are also undergoing their practice. We recall everyone warmly and we are having high hopes, that this feeling is mutual.

If you want to join our volunteer group, above all you must expect hard work which not always will be pleasure. Working with the injured animal is extremely satisfying, but also very difficult and demanding. It requires a lot of sacrifices and challenges. It is also vital to the high sensitivity, but at the same time extraordinary mental resilience. In most cases, the animals, which hit us, need immediate assistance and then long-term rehabilitation. They are often seriously injured, so heavy fractures, internal, outside multiple injuries it almost at us everyday life. As a volunteer you must be mentally prepared to cope with the constant presence of animal suffering. Consider in advance whether the sight of blood, bodily fluids or guts will not be frightened. Often, these animals require long-term care, so you can be exposed to unsavory smells, the possibility of getting dirty, not to say clothing damage.

Working with animals is quite specific. It requires a special approach to deal with our patients. So far we didn’t have any cases, that someone from our staff / volunteers were seriously injured by our patients, but the current regulations require taking earlier insurance against (Volunteer Accident Insurance) before volunteering. The insurance costs about a few zlotys, and gives you and us a psychological comfort, apart from the fact, that on 99 % you will never use it. In case that you are still an underage a written parental consent will be essential. ;)

Especially for volunteers we create an electronic calendar, where you can enter into concrete terms. Thanks to this calendar we know in advance whom we can count on and whom on the given day we can expect as well as we are able to avoid the situation where one of the quieter days there are several volunteers, and when it is really a lot of work we have the feeling that there is no one here. Currently we adopted the system so that it accepts maximum 2 volunteers at one time. With many years of experience, we know that with 2 volunteers we create the best team where the work is most efficient and at the same time there is enough roles and responsibilities for everyone.
