Roe deer (Capreolus capreolus)

Roe deer - are seen by many only as the animal game as not requiring special attention. According to us and the people who bring them to our asylum, also deserve help

Annually, to our center gets about twenty-five individuals requiring assistance. Unfortunately, that number will gradually increase. There are new expressways and new residential areas which replace spaces where deers have lived and multiplied for years. Provided animals are often in critical condition. As a rule, become victims of poachers failed operations, bites by dogs, car crashes and burns during the burning grass. Also reach poor individuals who do not cope with severe winter, and small deers, which the mother died or they were thoughtlessly removed from their feeding grounds by a uninformed, people who wanted to help them. In any case, we make every effort to ensure that roe-deer survived and returned to the natural environment. Unfortunately this is not an easy task. The specific physiology of these beautiful mammals makes animals very difficult to treat. In cases where the deer are wandering desperately in urban areas, bumping against the walls of buildings, while fleeing from raging element of fired grass, or are caught by the unprofessional and unorganized crowd of noisy people ,than their natural reaction is to panic and desperate escape to the loss of the last for ces.As a result of muscle damage caused due to many external factors and a lot of effort, irreversible changes occur, which results in further degeneration of the kidneys and heart. In addition, acute stress significantly contributes to reduce the chance of survival. Many times we saw tear-stained eyes of the man who carried a deer up to 200km, hoping to help. Even more memorable was the sight of dark, doe eyes, which manifests itself in pain, terror and suffering. Despite of our strenuous attempts many of them can not be saved. Powerless and the burden of another defeat we were looking for solution, how can we help them more effectively? Trying to maximum use of these over dozen percent chance of survival, we decided to move with the program "Emergency Service for roe-deers"We want to create a separate place for the treatment and rehabilitation of this specific mammal. Rooms in our clinic, unfortunately, are not very suitable for this task and make it much more difficult for us. Bright light, unpleasant noises, sometimes howling dogs, as well as a slick, hard floor tiles compounded even more stress in affected animals. Isolation, darkness and peace are the factors which have a significant impact on the success of their treatment. Our skills and commitment are not enough. We need the right equipment and conditions suitable for deers. Heated hospital rooms lined with rubber mat, straw-lined boxes, operating room with a table adapted to the special operations with the equipment needed to save life (oxygen concentrator, artificial kidney, etc.). If the animal managed to get out of the critical state, further convalescence would take a place in specially adapted pens, without access for other animals and importunate observers.
